Kittyhawk NY

Kittyhawk NY

Time to play.

Kittyhawk NY is a late-night pasta and music venue in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Originally known for its moody, Parisian end-of-war aesthetic, the owner felt it was time a radical evolution.

Enter: KHNY. Still operating under the Kittyhawk name, we needed to signal a dramatic shift—a takeover. As if the original venue had been airlifted straight into 80’s New York.

The brand draws heavy inspiration from the raw, rebellious energy of 80s and 90s underground street art. From the Basquiat, Haring, Warhol era where art met hip-hop and culture clashed in colour and noise. It’s rooted in self-expression and the spirit of disruption.

KHNY needed a brand that never sat still. That meant multiple logos, clashing typefaces, and visual tension, symbolising rebellion by design. The signature octopus illustration is sampled straight from the background of the 1984 Bronx classic Beat Street, with the whole identity being a nod to street party posters, boombox battles, and the golden era of MTV.
